At the start of the 21st Century, the theme of children’s jewellery as a toy further develops within ‘kit’ jewellery ranges – i.e. sets containing the components required for a child to create their own piece of jewellery – as illustrated by this example from the ‘My Fashion Collection’ range by David Halsall Toys.
This ‘My Fashion Collection: Beautiful Jewellery’ kit comes packaged inside a six-petalled flower-shaped plastic box containing different small parts separated into segments. Included are a selection of multi-coloured and gold plastic beads, a length of green elastic cord and a plastic necklace clasp.
In addition, and to start the child off with a few ideas, the kit already contains items of jewellery and hair accessories including: a pair of plastic pink and orange heart-shaped clip-on earrings, a bracelet of coloured plastic beads strung onto pink elastic thread, a plastic heart-shaped hair-clip, a hair-bobble with plastic heart-shaped decoration and a bear-shaped hair-bobble.
Like other Halsall jewellery products, this children’s jewellery kit is not expensive to purchase, and similar manufacturers produce low-priced alternatives that could be found in most high-street toy shops.
