One of my favourite images that I created for my PhD research into Children’s Jewellery throughout history was based around the concept of mixing tradition with modernity.

This re-created image I called ‘Dream Princess c.1631-2001’ – was a manipulation of an old painting.

I took the 17th Century portrait of this baby girl wearing a pearl choker and a coral teething stem and I ‘accessorised’ her with some fabulous plastic gems from the 20th century!

A dream – and a princess – indeed!

Of course this was back in the day when personal computers had only just come out and what you could do graphically on Photoshop was not anything like what you can do today!

Perhaps I should create some more of these?

This image is from my PhD Thesis – Fig 128: c.1630 – 1631:
Portrait of ‘Lady Henrietta Stanley’ depicting a baby girl wearing a pearl choker, and a coral teething stem, set in gold, hung on a white ribbon around her neck.
