One of my favourite images from my PhD research into Children’s Jewellery throughout history is this image of the baby Jesus – the Christ Child – adorned with a coral sprig around his neck.

Painted in c.1379 – 1451 by the Veronese artist Giovanni Badile – I love the rich green colours that he has used contrasted against the orange of the coral and the golden highlights.

The colour palette for this website and Sarah McAleer Historysmith takes influences from this image.

More on the details of this painting later – for now I’d love for you to join me on this historical journey and discover the jewellery children have worn in EVERY era of time.

This image is from fig 101 of my PhD thesis: c.1379 – 1451
